Athens
Information Technology (AIT), a Center of Excellence for
Research and Graduate Education, announces its international 2008
Summer School on ‘Network and Service Infrastructures for
Communication, Computing and Media’.
AIT summer schools are a unique opportunity offered to students and
professionals to enrich their background in the areas of information
technology, telecommunications and technology management.
Participants gain insights on applied ICT technologies, as well as
leading edge research results. AIT summer seminars are typically
complemented with social events, which bring the participants closer
and create a warm collaborative atmosphere.
Building on the successes of the 2005 AIT Summer School on ‘Emerging
ICT Technologies’, the 2006 AIT Summer School on ‘Next Generation
Computing Systems’, and the 2007 AIT Summer School on ‘Recent
Advances in Telecommunications, Networking and Distributed Computing
Systems’, the 2008 AIT Summer School will offer a multidisciplinary
program including courses and laboratory activities allowing
students to gain insights on the range of technologies that comprise
the emerging network and service infrastructures, which will change
the way people communicate, collaborate and perform business.
Emphasis will be given to optical broadband and wireless networking;
dependable, service-oriented and pervasive computing
infrastructures; and ICT Security.
The program will be organized into two weekly modules enabling
participants to focus on a networking track or on a pervasive and
service-oriented systems track or both.
This modular structure will allow students to customize the program
according to their learning objectives, preferences and
expectations. Students attending both modules will obtain a multiple
benefit, since they will be exposed to a broader range of
complementary technologies.
Students and professionals from computer science, computational
science, engineering and application backgrounds are encouraged to
apply. The school is designed to accommodate students with diverse
academic backgrounds. Following the completion of the summer school,
participants will receive a certification of their studies.

Το Meet Your Future αποτελεί
ένα πρωτοποριακό πρόγραμμα του Athens Information Technology
το οποίο δίνει την ευκαιρία σε τελειόφοιτους δευτεροβάθμιας
εκπαίδευσης να έρθουν σε επαφή με τεχνολογίες αιχμής, αλλά κυρίως να
γνωρίσουν προοπτικές σπουδών και καριέρας.
Το πρόγραμμα διοργανώνεται για τρίτη συνεχόμενη χρονιά, μετά τη
σημαντική επιτυχία που κατά γενική ομολογία σημείωσε το 1ο Meet Your
Future (Ιούνιος 2006) αλλά και το 2ο Meet Your Future (Ιούνιος
2007).
Στο πλαίσιο των προγραμμάτων Meet Your
Future οι συμμετέχοντες έρχονται σε επαφή με πληθώρα
εφαρμογών και επαγγελμάτων που συνδέονται με τις τεχνολογίες
πληροφορικής και τηλεπικοινωνιών, στους τομείς των έξυπων χώρων, της
ασφάλειας, των ηλεκτρονικών παιχνιδιών, του ηλεκτρονικού εμπορίου,
των διαδικτυακών συνναλλαγών και υπηρεσιών, αλλά και της ιατρικής,
της νευροχειρουργικής και των κατασκευών.
Το 3o Meet Your Future θα έχει
διάρκεια μιας εβδομάδας και θα επικεντρωθεί σε μελλοντικές
τεχνολογικές εξελίξεις και εφαρμογές, καθώς και στον τρόπο με τον
οποίο αυτές θα επηρρεάσουν την καθημερινή μας ζωή. Παράλληλα θα
παρουσιάσει επιλογές σπουδών και καριέρας που σχετίζονται με τις
εφαρμογές αυτές. Στο πρόγραμμα διδάσκουν καθηγητές του AIT, στελέχη
εταιριών, αλλά και καθηγητές άλλων κορυφαίων εκπαιδευτικών ιδρυμάτων
από την Ελλάδα και το εξωτερικό.
Οι παρουσιάσεις περιλαμβάνουν παρουσίαση επαγγελμάτων πληροφορικής
και τηλεπικοινωνιών, συσχέστισή τους με κατευθύνσεις σπουδών,
διαλογικές συζητήσεις και στενή επαφή των συμμετεχόντων με mentors
(δηλ. καθηγητές, ακαδημαϊκούς, στελέχη εταιριών, σύμβουλους
καριέρας), επιδείξεις εφαρμογών και μικρές πρακτικές ασκήσεις στα
υπερσύγχρονα εργαστήρια του AΙΤ, επισκέψεις σε εταιρίες, σύντομες
ζωντανές οπτιακοκουστικές συνδέσεις με κορυφαία εκπαιδευτικά και
ακαδημαϊκά ιδρύματα (π.χ. Harvard, Carnegie Mellon University),
καθώς και κοινωνικές εκδηλώσεις με στόχο την καλλιέργεια φιλικών
σχέσεων μεταξύ των μαθητών.
Το πρόγραμμα απευθύνεται πρωταρχικά σε τελειόφοιτους δευτεροβάθμιας
εκπαίδευσης. Μπορούν όμως να συμμετέχουν και απόφοιτοι
δευτεροβάθμιας εκπαίδευσης, μαθητές λυκείου και φοιτητές στα πρώτα
έτη της φοίτησής τους, ανεξάρτητα από το επιστημονικό τους υπόβαθρο.
Αν και η πλειοψηφία των δραστηριοτήτων θα βασιστούν στην ελληνική
γλώσσα, η γνώση της αγγλικής γλώσσας είναι γενικά επιθυμητή. Όλοι οι
συμμετέχοντες θα λάβουν πιστοποιητικό παρακολούθησης του
προγράμματος Meet the Future.
Λόγω μεγάλης ζητήσης αιτήσεις για συμμετοχή στο πρόγραμμα Meet Your Future θα
γίνονται αποδεκτές έως και την 13η Ιουνίου 2008,
για περιορισμένες θέσεις.
Dr.
Panos Pardalosis Distinguished Professor of Industrial and
Systems Engineering at the University of Florida.
He is also affiliated faculty member of the Computer Science
Department, the Hellenic Studies Center, and the Biomedical
Engineering Program.
He is also the director of the Center for Applied Optimization.
Dr. Pardalos obtained a PhD degree from the University of Minnesota in
Computer and Information Sciences. He has held visiting appointments
at Princeton University, DIMACS Center, Institute of Mathematics and
Applications, FIELDS Institute, AT & T Labs Research, Trier
University, Linkoping Institute of Technology, and Universities in
Greece.
He has received numerous awards including, University of Florida
Research
Foundation Professor, UF Doctoral Dissertation Advisor/Mentoring
Award,
Foreign Member of the Royal Academy of Doctors (Spain), Foreign
Member
Lithuanian Academy of Sciences, Foreign Member of the Ukrainian
Academy of
Sciences, Foreign Member of the Petrovskaya Academy of Sciences and
Arts
(Russia), and Honorary Member of the Mongolian Academy of Sciences.
Dr. Pardalos received the degree of Honorary Doctor from Lobachevski
University (Russia), he is a fellow of AAAS, a fellow of INFORMS,
and in
2001 he was awarded the Greek National Award and Gold Medal for
Operations Research.
Dr. Pardalos is a world leading expert in global and combinatorial
optimization. He is the editor-in-chief of the Journal of Global
Optimization, Journal of Optimization Letters, and Computational
Management
Science. In addition, he is the managing editor of several book
series, and
a member of the editorial board of several international journals.
He is the
author of 8 books and the editor of several books. He has written
numerous
articles and developed several well known software packages. His
research is
supported by National Science Foundation and other government
organizations.
His recent research interests include network design problems,
optimization
in telecommunications, e-commerce, data mining, biomedical
applications, and
massive computing.
Dr. Pardalos has been an invited lecturer at many universities
and research institutes around the world.
He has also organized several international conferences.
