Project Duration: 18 months
Project Start Date: 07/09/2006
Project Total Funding: 311 526,00 EURO (GSRT Contribution)
RESIT-AIT Funding 110104,00 EURO (GSRT Contribution to AIT)
Funding Source: GSRT (General Secretariat for Research and Technology)
Project Summary: Dynamic extraction of content meta-data based on real-time processing of A/V streams. Use of these meta data in the scope of surveillance and meeting support applications
Partners: [1] NTUA – ICCS (National Technical University of Athens, Institute of Computer and Communication Systems)
[2] Research and Education Society in Information Technology (RESIT-AIT)
[3] ARCHETYPON
Project Main Objectives

  • Dynamic extraction of low-level content meta-data based on real-time processing of A/V streams.
  • Mapping of low-level meta-data to higher level semantics (notably ontologies).
  • Development of a reconfigurable middleware platform that leverages these semantics.
  • Demonstration of the benefits of the platform for application development in the scope of security/surveillance and meeting support applications.
AIT ‘s
Role and key contributions:
  • Contribution of AIT’s background A/V processing algorithms (developed by Autonomic and Grid Computing Group) for face detection and tracking, person tracking, person identification,
  • Object tracking, acoustic localization, speech activity detection. For more info on these technologies see: http://www.ait.edu.gr/research/RG1/systems.asp
  • Integration and fine tuning of the algorithms in the scope of the PRIAMOS applications.
  • Enhancement of the above algorithms so as to become adaptive (to environmental conditions and context), autonomic (basic research).
  • Contribution to the specification of the PRIAMOS middleware platforms architecture, as well as to the architecture of applications.
  • Contribution to developing the PRIAMOS middleware platform through mapping feature extraction data to semantic structures.
  • Application development emphasizing on real-time context-aware non obtrusive functionality.

GSRT Project ZEUS (Δορυφορικός Ιστός Απομακρυσμένων Σχολείων - ΔΙΑΣ)

Programme: Concerted Programme for Electronic Learning
List of Partners: OTE, Intracom, HELLAS SAT, Ellinogermaniki Agogi, Univ. of the Aegean, QPlan
AIT Funding: 60,000 Euros
Project Duration: 18 months
Project Start Date: 01/12/2003
Involvement in PM: 18
Objectives /Goals: The ZEUS project has envisioned the implementation of advanced communication channels for the provision of support to isolated schools in Greece. The project is based on a close cooperation between pedagogical experts, trainers, teachers, software developers and communication experts to design, develop and implement an advanced learning environment which is based on satellite communications in order to support the training of teachers in schools located in rural areas, mainly in Central Greece and in the Aegean Sea. The project aims at providing in service training to multigrade teachers by utilizing the capabilities of advanced satellite systems. The training programme aims at enhancing professional skills of multigrade schoolteachers as well as to develop their abilities in using ICT as supporting tool in everyday teaching. Subsequently, the teachers could act as instructors to familiarise the local community with using eLearning facilities (e.g. students, farmers). The ZEUS project will provide a framework and a model for the continuous training and support of multigrade schoolteachers, enhancing communication among remote multigrade school teaching environment and outside educational community.

Programme: ΑΝΤΑΓΩΝΙΣΤΙΚΟΤΗΤΑ Ranked best project proposal relating to IT and Networking teaching & training, in the scope of the respective GSRT call's evaluation.
List of Partners: University of the Aegean, National Techical University of Athens, University of Piraeus, Technical University of Larissa, Technical University of Crete, RESIT/AIT, EXODUS S.A.
AIT Funding: 8,580 Euros
Project Duration: 24 months
Project Start Date: 01/11/2003
Objectives /Goals: The project focuses on teaching appropriately selected target groups on technology topics related to multiservice networking, wireless networking, e-health and e-government. Moreover, several postgraduate students, and professionals of the target groups will be trained in the organizations of the consortium.
AIT (Autonomic Computing Group) prepares training and educational material relating to telecoms / networking, e-health, and e-government. Members of the group are among the instructors of the courses, and have given lectures in the scope of the first three seminars series (each comprising 64 hours of lectures) organized by the project in:
  • Mitilini, January 2004, emphasizing on IT & networking for e-health
  • Larisa, March 2004, emphasizing on IT & networking for e-health
  • Athens, May-June 2004, emphasizing on IT & networking for military applications. This was organized by the group at the AIT premises, and involved teaching of Hellenic Air Force Personnel on IT & telecom topics pertaining to military applications and organizations.
