The Algorithms and Security group is led by Prof. Tassos Dimitriou. The group will undergo a major expansion seeking quality applicants interested in doing research in the areas mentioned above.
Short CV of Prof. Tassos Dimitriou
Dr. Tassos Dimitriou received his BSc degree from the Computer Science and Engineering Department of the University of Patras, Greece in 1990 and his MSc and PhD degrees from the Computer Science Dept. of the University of California, San Diego in 1993 and 1996, respectively. In 1997, he joined the Computer Technology Institute (CTI), where he conducted research on Probabilistic and Approximation Algorithms for difficult to solve problems and managed the design and development of various R&D projects. In parallel, he taught regularly at the Graduate Program "Logic and Algorithms" of the Mathematics Dept. of the University of Athens while in the period 2001-2002 he was a visiting professor at the Computer Science departments of both the Polytechnic School of Crete and the University of Athens where he taught graduate and undergraduate courses.
Dr. Dimitriou is an Adjunct faculty in the Information Networking
Institute of Carnegie Mellon University and an Associate Professor at Athens
Information Technology where he's leading the Algorithms and Security group at AIT where emphasis is given in two distinct areas; the study of sensor networks and the development of secure applications for networking and electronic commerce. In the first, the focus is on the design of secure and energy-efficient protocols that are used in propagating information about a sensed event towards a receiving center using only local information and total absence of coordination between sensors. In the second, the focus is on providing secure authentication and key establishment protocols for ad-hoc networks that can be proved secure against adversaries of various capabilities. His research in the above fields has resulted in numerous publications, some of which received distinction, and numerous invitations for talks in prestigious conferences like the International World Wide Web conference and InfoCom. Furthermore, apart from his teaching duties at AIT, he gives regular short and professional courses on topics related to security.
During his career Dr. Dimitriou has received various awards and fellowships among which is a Wooley fellowship and a Teaching Award from the University of California. He is also a member of various international societies and a Fulbright fellow.
