Technical management and leadership of EU IST European project ARCHEOGUIDE researching outdoors user position & orientation tracking and the use of machine learning for providing adaptive tours with 3D augmented reality reconstruction of cultural heritage sites. Design of machine learning schemes for inferring user preferences, multithreading for multimedia presentation synchronization. User tracking via GPS & compass h/w and vision s/w techniques. Task leader in EU IST program UP-TV: Ubiquitous Personalized TV services (Digital TV personalization).

  • Senior Developer, Delta Technology Inc, May 96 – Jan. 2000. Research and development on distributed evolutionary methods for locating optimal solutions to large-scale industrial problems such as crew assignment, domain decomposition etc. Very large scale OO software system for automatic creation of monthly schedules (bidlines) of the pilots of Delta Air Lines. System in production at Delta Air Lines since 1997. Research was nominated for the 1998 Daniel H. Wagner Award for excellence in Operations Research practice. Research & development of a real-time distributed Flight Planning System for Delta Air Lines (incorporating Shortest Paths with Resource Constraints algorithms).

  • Research Assistant, Computer Sciences Dept. University of Wisconsin - Madison, Jan. 1994 - Aug. 1996. Research on parallel high level GA's for solving data partitioning problems that arise in engineering and scientific computing environments. Developed a methodology for the provably fast and accurate solution of such problems. Solves million binary variable problems in less than 2' on a network of SPARCServers 20. Significantly outperformed all other well-known methods (spectral bisection, geometric partitioning) in solution quality.

  • Researcher, Intelligent Robotics & Control Unit, Dept. of Electrical & Computer Engineering, National Technical University of Athens, Greece, Sep. 1990 - May 1991. Designed and implemented an Expert System for multiple simultaneous fault diagnosis in automotives, (user: Lucas CAV.) Deep knowledge non-monotonic reasoning techniques used in shallow knowledge domain. Thus, system is tolerant to incorrect and/or incomplete information provided by users, performance degrades gracefully under such conditions.
