Autonomic & Grid Computing Group (AGC)
Research Topics - Main Research Areas
- Multimodal Technologies and Perceptual Interfaces, with emphasis on interfaces enabling natural interactivity and ease of use, as well as identification of context via several modalities. Special attention is put on advanced signal processing algorithms (processing A/V streams).
- Pervasive, Human Centric Context-aware Computing, where the focus is on devising and developing context-acquisition components, situation models and middleware architectures for realistic non intrusive services. Context modeling is carried out based on both rule based and statistical techniques. Applications are prototyped and demonstrated in a state of the art smart space laboratory.
- RFID middleware and applications, with emphasis on tools, techniques and specifications that could ease the end-to-end development and management of non-trivial RFID applications and related RFID enabled business processes. We consider RFID (Radio Frequency Identification) systems, as a prominent and tangible example of pervasive systems and applications.
- Middleware & Networking for Ubiquitous and Pervasive Services, with a focus on advanced infrastructures keeping track of state and providing a host of non-functional features such as resource management, scalability and fault tolerance.
- Grid Computing, with a focus on resource management and grid application enablement in environments comprising multiple heterogeneous and geographically dispersed resources.
- Research on tools, techniques and protocols for Enterprise Interoperability, including edge service oriented architectures that leverage best-of-breed grid computing and RFID architectures. Our enterprise interoperability research aims at brining the benefits of pervasive and autonomic computing to the modern digital firm.
