Facilities
AIT’s state-of-the-art research and education facilities include three amphitheaters which are distinguished for their versatility and highly trained technical support, and six laboratories, unique in the region. The building’s distinctive modern internal infrastructure is conducive to hosting conferences/seminars/workshops, lectures, television productions, press conferences, and exhibitions.
Each amphitheater has been specifically designed to provide excellent acoustics. The projection booth, located in the Socrates Amphitheater on the third floor, is made of sound-proof glass and projection of any analog or digital video signals for all three spaces is managed by a professional technician.
When you join AIT, you join a full campus environment. Spacious classrooms, interactive amphitheaters outfitted with audiovisual network systems enabling tele-education, a modern library and fully equipped state-of-the-art laboratories which support your educational and research activity.
AIT is equipped with wireless access facilities, allowing you to access the internet from any part of the building. High-speed communication lines are provided for communication with the wider academic community. The eLearning environment has been developed so that courses taught by Carnegie Mellon professors or other collaborating universities, such as Harvard’s Kennedy School of Government, are given either on site or remotely via live video teleconferencing.
The communication lines are active 24-hours a day enabling all AIT students to have immediate and fast access to Carnegie Mellon's digital library, and supporting net-meetings.
Study rooms, a bookstore, a restaurant-coffee shop and a recreation area are always available for you to study and socialize in a more relaxed environment with your fellow students.

| Laboratories |
|
Optical Communications Systems and Networks Laboratory: Its capabilities are making it one of the most advanced laboratories in Europe and its value exceeds the 2.5Μ€ (euros). The laboratory facilities are used for educational purposes and assist AIT’s research associated with systems supporting advanced and demanding applications.
Autonomic and Intelligent Systems Laboratory(Smart Room):Smart Room infrastructure. The goal of this laboratory is to promote understanding, education and research in the areas of audio- visual speech recognition, gesture recognition, automatic classification of documents, and context aware working spaces.
B-WISE Management Laboratory: Short-Range Wireless (SRW) communication systems and networks is a focal point of AIT's research. Activities include secure multimedia transmission over ad-hoc and mesh networks; co-existence, interoperability and interworking issues in the presence of multiple heterogeneous networks; distributed signal processing algorithms and simulation tools for energy-efficient wireless sensor networks.
Innovation Management Laboratory: The Innovation Management Lab (IML) aims to nurture a new generation of innovators by promoting curricula designed to teach creativity, strategic management of innovation and entrepreneurship; provide support, advice and guidance to the business research community while facilitating interaction between academics and research sponsors, but also the greater local and regional business communities; and teaches processes that can assist any organization in being more innovative in all aspects of its business resulting in significant performance improvement. Specific areas of focus include developing organizational capabilities and finding new markets for new technologies.
Software Systems and Web Technologies (SSWT) Laboratory: The SSWT lab is equipped with high-end multiprocessor PCs and Sun Ultra workstations. It is dedicated to the study, design and development of software systems, distributed operating systems and middleware, programming languages and formal methods, web services and service-oriented architecture, and semantic web applications.
Cryptography & Information Security Laboratory: The lab for Cryptography and Information Security provides a facility for R&D in Information and Systems security and research mainly falls within the framework of applications of cryptography in networking and e-commerce. The lab is used for both educational and professional purposes.

The Technical Library operates on the ground floor of the building, covering 250 sq.m.

| Recreation Area |
|
It is important to take the time to relax, to give your mind a change of pace. In the main academic building, students may find a variety of recreational activities with which to relax. A billiard/table tennis table is available for one-on-one or team games; television and table games for those who are not feeling so energetic.

| Restaurant |
|
Located on campus and offers a varied menu (buffet or take-out) to meet all culinary tastes and health needs.
|
| Parking |
|
All students who drive their own vehicle have access to the underground parking space. The INTRACOM parking area is also available to the students and visitors. Cameras are installed to monitor the parking area. AIT is not responsible for any damage or loss. The safety of the vehicle is the owner's responsibility.

| Accommodation |
In an effort to provide the best possible services to all students, AIT collaborates with a Real Estate agent, who maintains for AIT an accommodation database and helps students throughout their studies. The agent manages a large portfolio of leased houses and apartments, off-campus, in Peania. Accommodation is generally within either walking distance or a short bus journey from AIT.
All properties are checked by AIT and the Real Estate agent, for standards of safety and hygiene. Still, it is the responsibility of the landlord to ensure that the property offered, meets all health and safety standards, as imposed by law.
The Real Estate agent is always willing to become involved should you experience any difficulties. It is advisable, students take time to visit AIT and meet the agent, before the beginning of the Programs. That way, students would have time to see some properties and discuss several issues of concern (maps, advice on how to get to the properties, advice about contracts, etc). Please remember that you should never sign an agreement for a property without having seen it first.
If you decide to share a house/ apartment with a fellow student, means that you will share responsibility for cooking, cleaning, washing, putting rubbish out for collection, paying the rent and all bills on time and acting responsibly towards your neighbors in an unsupervised environment. All bills are collected and distributed to the students by the Real Estate agent.
Gas and Electricity Bills
Gas and electricity bills will need to be split equally between house-mates of houses. It is difficult to estimate the cost as it will vary depending on the season and the size of the property, but as a rough guide we recommend students budget between 30 and 50 euro per person, per month for utility bills.
Internet Access and Telephone Services
AIT does not provide internet access in its off-campus properties and students would therefore need to arrange this themselves. All properties have one phone line installed and students can arrange to connect this line with the various providers that exist in Greece, once they have moved into the property.
All costs including any reconnection charges are the responsibility of the tenants, along with the monthly service charge. Once your phone line is active you will be able to arrange a broadband internet service with a provider of your choice.
