Since 2005 Athens Information Technology has successfully organized 6 consecutive Summer Schools for undergraduate and graduate students and brought together over 200 students from from Albania, Armenia, Austria, Bulgaria, China, Croatia, Denmark, Ethiopia, France, Greece, Indonesia, Italy, India, Jordan, Korea, Malawi, Poland, Romania, Serbia, Turkey and Tunisia.
Topics covered over the years were the 2005 ‘Emerging ICT Technologies’, the 2006 “Next Generation Computing Systems”, the 2007 ‘Recent Advances in Telecommunications, Networking and Distributed Computing Systems’, the 2008 “Leading Edge Network and Service Infrastructures”, the 2009 “Future Internet and Sensor Web”, and the 2010 “Pervasive Networks and the Web of Things” Summer Schools. Finally and for the first time the 2011 Summer School on Science and ICT, took place in AIT and Ancient Olympia and covered the 2 emerging fields of Smart Management of the Human Environment and Social Networking.
Throughout the Summer School years, students and professionals from computer science, computational science, engineering and application backgrounds, but generally from diverse academic backgrounds had the opportunity to attend a balanced mix of courses, laboratory activities, social events, excursion programs and visits to the INTRACOM group of companies.
The Summer Schools’ social program included swimming events, social dinners, visit to the Acropolis Museum and other archeological sites, one day trips to Aegina, Sounio and Ancient Olympia. Social events created a warm, friendly and collaborative atmosphere among the participants.
