Master in WEB SCIENCE AND NETWORKED MEDIA (MS WiNMe)
MSWINMe integrated into the MSITT program
Ancient Greek philosopher Heraclitus has epitomized the perpetual change in our in life with the aphorism:” Everything Flows”… "Ever-newer waters flow on those who step into the same rivers." Our Master program on Information and Telecommunication Technologies integrates both our Master offerings (MsWiNME & MSITT). It has been specifically structured to address the specializations and directions that may interest you, namely Broadband Networks, Wireless Communications, Software Systems, Mobile & Internet Computing, Intelligent Systems, and Information Security.
Our integrated MSITT program, which represents the outgrowth of more than 10 years of experience at AIT in the technology graduate education, is fully aligned to the Bologna Process graduate program, following the European Credit Transfer System (ECTS) and the new accreditation processes of the Greek Ministry of Education. It addresses graduates and professionals, coming from diverse undergraduate backgrounds of Applied Science and Electrical and Computer Engineering, offering theoretical knowledge and practical skills on several important areas of Telecommunications and Information Systems.

A New Frontier in Careers & Research!
MS WiNMe is an interdisciplinary graduate program focusing on the technologies that make the Web the technological, social and economic breakthrough that is transforming our lives.
It offers a uniquely combined specialization in the technologies that are shaping the web today and the innovations that are going to dominate the future. Networks, sensors, media, gaming, mobile web, social networks, and security technologies are the areas of specialized learning. Also focuses on the mobile web and mobile apps world for business, media and services. Get specialization in IT, Networks, Media, or Security.
Environment at AIT
Our students experience a friendly, state-of-the-art environment, an embodiment of Greek hospitality and educational/scientific excellence. The student body is an international, diverse group of motivated and talented individuals, who enjoy a community of learning and life at AIT. Guided by renowned professors and scientists they form a dynamic educational and research environment. Supported by student and career services, the AIT community shares a common commitment and determination to excel in the fields of IT, Networks, Innovation and Management. Students are given the opportunity to explore and visit sites, rich with Greek history, and experience life in this fast-paced, European capital. The AIT campus is located in Peania, just a few kilometers outside the center of Athens. Students can take advantage of a modern infrastructure, with the latest technology, including wireless networking, interactive amphitheaters, distance learning and fully-equipped laboratories. Students also have access to the AIT campus library, the online Aalborg University books and publications, as well as to the AIT dormitory, restaurant, and entertainment. facilities.

Program Overview
MsWiNMe is an advanced, 16-month (full-time) or alternatively a 32-month (part-time), graduate program that gives students a solid foundation on the cutting edge technologies that create the biggest information construct humanity has created: the world wide web. Advanced concepts in wireless and wired broadband networks, in modeling of the web, in security, in social and networked media, as well as in artificial intelligence and virtual reality are covered in depth though the core courses and a series of targeted electives leading to 4 different specializations:
- Information & Web Technology
- Broadband Networks
- New Media
- Security & Trust
The program is structured to provide both a good theoretical background and hands-on experience i.e., all the necessary knowledge and practical skills to tackle the challenges of high profile career paths either in academia or in industry. Graduates of the MS WiNMe program can pursue a Ph.D. either at AIT or abroad, or directly enter careers that are in high demand and have a strong path into the future. These include both traditional positions like software engineer, networking engineer, IT analyst, IT consultant, IT security officer, as well as new careers paths in ICT like game development, game engine development, intelligent building design, social and networked media services, knowledge agent and web business development.

Objectives
This unique multi-disciplinary program is designed to address the content, technology and research gaps that the World Science Foundation has identified thus preparing students to:
- Acquire detailed understanding of the web not just as a technology, but as “all human activities connected by technology.”
- Gain theoretical understanding and practical experience in building networked and distributed computer systems and putting them on the web (cloud computing) for enhanced value and access.
- Gain detailed understanding of the design principles and the evolution of the web as a complex system of networked computers, sensors, media, services, and social connections.
- Manage the development and evolution of reliable and secure information networks and computer systems promoting trust and new business models.
- Gain expertise in managing and troubleshooting large scale information networks and distributed systems.
- Gain detailed understanding of establishing requirements in complex applications and how to offer them over the internet, attracting followers and thus increasing their value and their accessibility.
- Learn how the internet is evolving to the internet of things (IoT) which will and manage practically all devices, sensors, and objects that can be connected or be described on the internet.
- Learn about multimedia and new media technologies and how to develop content for immersive environments and intelligent spaces.
- Learn about the new technologies driving gaming and game engine development.
- Discover the cutting edge technologies of virtual reality, autonomic systems and artificial intelligence.
- Learn about the new web economics and the new media market.
- Equip themselves with skills to assume leadership positions in information and communication technology and in the emerging sciences of the web and new media.
In brief, the biggest asset that Ms WiNMe offers to students is the ability to gain an insight of the web: a highly complex, continuously evolving, networked system
offering seamlessly information, media and applications on a global scale, while supporting and transforming human interaction and society. This unique and broad knowledge enables our graduates not only to address research and development with an understanding beyond the technological but prepares them to invent the future of ICT.

Program Summary
In order to successfully complete the MS WiNMe program, the student should complete 11 courses (6 core and 5 elective courses) and complete the graduate project. The program has 4 areas of specialization: IT & Web Technology, Broadband Networks, New Media, and Security & Trust. Students are required to complete at least 3 electives from their area of specialization and at least 1 elective from two other areas. Students may specialize in one additional area by extending their duration of study and completing the additional area course requirements; written permission from the MS WiNMe Program Coordinator is required.
Duration of the program: Full-time students: 16 months
Part-time students: 32 months Course load is defined as those courses for which the student is registered at any time.
a) Number of Course Load per Semester for Full-Time students: The minimum full-time course load in the MS WiNMe program is 3 courses per semester for the Fall and Spring Semesters and 1 course for the summer semester. Students taking less than the minimum load must secure written permission from the MS WiNMe Program Coordinator. The maximum course load in the program is 4 courses per semester. Students taking more than the maximum load must secure written permission from the MS WiNMe Program Coordinator.

Students' Views
"Athens, Greece is one of the best places I have ever seen. Apart from the fact that during the first 1 or 2 semesters, the work load was so heavy that I barely had time to go around, I eventually realized how the Greek culture, food and way of life can taint your heart forever. I am so glad I went there for 16 months, and would never miss an opportunity to go there again (even if for a short while)."
