AIT at a glance

Athens Information Technology (AIT), an internationally-renowned nonprofit education and research center in the fields of information technology, telecommunications, and innovation management, was founded in 2002 by the INTRACOM group of companies. In creating AIT, INTRACOM’s purpose was to build on the track record of excellence set by Greek scientists and engineers both in Greece and abroad, and to enable Greece to play a significant future role in these fields.

AIT’s mission is twofold:

  1. To establish and maintain a center of excellence for research and education in the areas of information and communication technologies, innovation management and entrepreneurship; and
  2. To foster the development of top level competitive professionals capable of creating technological and entrepreneurial breakthroughs

In its 12 years of existence, AIT has become a beacon of research and education excellence in the field of ICT in Greece and beyond, achieving an impressive number of important milestones that clearly form an outstanding record for any institution of its size and youth.
This is manifested by:
Private academia ranking: A recent survey listed AIT as the 1st non-public academic institution in Greece. This achievement is  clearly attributed to the research prowess of AIT, as embodied in the research impact directly incited to AIT’s educational programs by its professors and researchers.
Research grant attraction: In less than a decade of active involvement in external research  fund raising, AIT ranks 7th in Greece in the EU ICT funding arena.
International recognition and distinctions in the Academic and Research arenas: AIT’s research outputs, as well as its individual faculty members have attracted a high number of international distinctions that testify to the achieved level of excellence and know-how of its people.
Strong network of R&D partners in Europe and worldwide. Trusted and valuable partnerships and collaborations have been established with more than 300 organisations.
Industrial research excellence: AIT runs regularly a number of industry-commissioned research projects, on target topics that give a clear competitive advantage to the corresponding companies; these also result in a number of patents for the generated intellectual property.
Startup companies: AIT is a key player in Greece’s emerging startup ecosystem, with its own faculty having spun already three technology startups. This activity complements AIT’s know-how in the field of business innovation and entrepreneurship, which has helped tens of AIT’s graduates put together their own companies. AIT is lead partner in a European effort towards  the establishment of a Virtual Open Incubation Ecosystem.
