For a second consecutive year Athens Information Technology organized an international summer school, under the umbrella title Next Generation Computing Systems. The Summer School took place 3-14 July, 2006 with the participation of undergraduate and postgraduate students with engineering, computer science and application-oriented backgrounds.
The 50 participants represented 10 different countries (Albania, Bulgaria, China, Greece, Italy, India, Jordan, Malawi, Romania, Serbia) and were selected from a pool of over 120 applicants.
Top-notch students were awarded scholarships based on the broad range of AIT's scholarship programs.
Participants had the opportunity to attend a balanced mix of courses, laboratory activities, social events, excursion programs and visits to the INTRACOM group of companies.

The program was organized into two weekly
modules:

1) Telecommunication-Networking-Security: which covered broadband, wireless and optical networking and ICT Security; and
2) Next Generation Distributed Systems: which dealt with the broad range of emerging pervasive, context-aware, autonomic and grid computing systems. Students were greatly interested in attending laboratory demonstrations which gave them a practical insight into several of the technologies presented in the program.

The rich social program of the Next Generation Computing Systems Summer School included a visit to the ancient Oracle of Delphi, a sightseeing tour in Athens (including the Acropolis), a daily excursion
to Egina island, a dinner in Plaka, and two swimming events. All these events allowed participants to relax and created a friendly atmosphere. International participants were particularly delighted to experience aspects of our rich ancient Greek heritage.

Next Generation Computing Systems was sponsored by INTRACOM Holdings, as well as communications sponsors including kariera.gr, MAD TV, PC Magazine, Online New Technology, and flash.gr.
